Alice Marie Cain was born September 2, 1919 in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore and Hendrika (Laurant) DeVaan. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. She grew up in De Graff. On April 28, 1937, Alice was united in marriage to Vince Cain at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in DeGraff. They were blessed with eight children and 52 years of marriage. Alice spent her time taking care of their home and raising their children. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock, and was active in the CCW. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Among the things she enjoyed were gardening, cooking, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Alice was called from this life on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. She attained the age of 92 years, 1 month and 17 days. Alice is survived by her sons: Pat (Linda) Cain of Kimberling City, MO, Bill (Peg) Cain of Kerkhoven, Tim Cain of Wisconsin, Terry (Mary Kaye) Cain of Grand Rapids, and Mark (Charee) Cain of Elk River; a daughter, Mary Ellen (Doug) Nelson of Murdock; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Vince in 1989; two sons: Gerald and John; her parents; brothers: Ted, Hubert and Jack DeVaan; and sisters: Lou Walsh, Johanna Colllins, and Peg LaMere.
