Obituary

Alvin "Al" Norman McPhillips passed away on September 17, 2019 in Sun City Center, Florida.

Al was born on June 4, 1935 in Tampa, Florida to parents Grace and Francis McPhillips. He graduated from Plant High School and attended Devries University in Chicago. Al was very proud of the time he served in the Navy- and the fact that he was one of the rare ones of his age born in Tampa.

He married Monica McPhillips and was given a large family of three children, then grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a large extended family of Giovanniellos. Al loved travelling, and he and Monica enjoyed many cruises, land trips, and road trips, both getting back to their roots in Ireland and Italy.

Al was employed by Xerox Corporation for over 40 years before he retired to Sun City Center in 1998. There he participated in clubs in which he had interests, such as The Mini Bus, Computer Club, Photo Club, Men's Club, Security Patrol, and most of all, softball. Like all of the players, he found it hard to give up softball, but he tried staying in touch to find out what was happening. He also enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader of newspaper and magazines-- not books.

He is predeceased by parents, Grace and Francis McPhillips; brothers, Lester and Francis McPhillips; sister, Grace Whitaker; sister-in-law, Rose Macario; and brothers-in-law, Louis Macario and Jack Sovak.

Al is survived by his wife, Monica McPhillips; stepchildren, Jeryl Ann Schott, James (Liz) Barber, and Jerry (Mugette) Barber; grandchildren, Megan Cavazos, Erynn Barber, Carly Barber, Corey Barber, Jesse Maiville, Nicole Baco, and Gaby Baco; great-grandchildren, Micaela Cavazos, EJ Cavazos, Eli Cavazos, Aiden Chambers, Rylan Chambers, and Zepellin Zerbino; brother, Earl (Diora) McPhillips; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.

He was a loving husband, a trusted friend, and a wonderful grandfather to the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City Center, Florida.
