Avis Hollingsworth Brown, 86 of Sun City Center, Florida
went home to be with her Everlasting Father on May 17, 2017.
She was the daughter of Paul and Alice Hollingsworth from Galena, Kansas.
Avis graduated from Galena High School in 1950 and
started work for 1st National Bank in Joplin, MO.
She moved to Santa Monica, CA and worked for the
Bank of America in Westwood Village until she married
Verney Brown from Troy, Texas.
Verney was stationed at the Naval Air Station in San Diego, California.
They were married on December 25, 1952.
When Verney was discharged from the Navy in 1953,
she and Verney moved to Indiana where she worked at
Lincoln Life Insurance while Verney attended Indiana Institute of Technology.
They lived there until Verney received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering.
After graduation they moved to Dallas, Texas,
where Avis became a full-time homemaker and devoted
her time and love raising their 3 children.
She was devoted to her family and supportive of Verney
as he pursued a career in the electronics industry which had
the family living in Dallas, then to Seattle, back to Dallas and
finally on to Belleair Beach, Florida, the location where Verney retired…..the first time.
1982, they moved to their ranch in Elbert, Colorado for a
short time prior to moving to Saratoga, California in 1983.
Avis and Verney became avid boaters while living in Texas
and have boated in Florida, up the east coast as far as
New Vern, North Carolina and south to the Bahamas.
They also boated the west coast from San Diego to Sika, Alaska.
They loved to travel in their RV, traveling through much of the United States,
including Alaska any many Provinces in Canada.
They also enjoyed motorcycle riding and made several long
motorcycle trips and carried their motorcycle with them on their motor home.
They rode much of the United States, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.
They loved the state of Washington, especially the Puget Sound
and San Juan Islands and Canadian Islands so much
they established their home in Anacortes, Washington and
made that their home for 28 years.
In 1994 Verney again retired from the electronics industry.
They traveled every year to Georgia and Florida to
spend the winter visiting family and friends.
In 2013, they moved to Sun City Center, Florida but
returned to Anacortes, Washington to enjoy the pleasant summer weather.
Avis is survived by her husband of 64 years, Verney Brown,
sons Mike Brown (Joan) from Palm Harbor, Florida,
Randy Brown (Christine) from Bellevue, Washington and
a daughter Cyndi Sims (Ed) from Kennesaw, Georgia.
She also has 7 loving grandchildren: Jared, Tyler, Douglas, Andrea,
Tiffany, Stephanie and Alisa. Avis was the great grandmother to 5:
Cayden, Bill, Cooper, Daphne and Charlie. Avis is also survived
by a sister, Mamie Williams of Webb City, Missouri.
She is preceded in death by her parents,
Alice and Paul Hollingsworth and a brother
Norman Paul Hollingsworth.
She was an active member of
the First Baptist Church of Anacortes and
Sun City Christian Center in Sun City Center.
A celebration of life will be held in both
Sun City Center on Sunday , May 21,2017
and at First Baptist in Anacortes at a later date, grave side service will be in Anacortes.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations of remembrance in honoring mom's fight against COPD, to help fight this awful disease.
