Obituary

Barbara (Clarkson) Kane, age 70, passed away at her residence in Sun City Center Florida on March 26th, 2014. She was born to the late Fred and Elsie Clarkson in Chicopee, MA in June of 1943. Barb and her beloved husband John split their time between their retirement home and community of dear friends in Florida and their home on the Connecticut Shore in Westbrook where they were close to their grandchildren.      Barb is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Kane, and her two boys; Shaun Kane of Guilford, CT and Todd Kane of Waterford, CT. She took immense joy spending time with her grandchildren Michael, Jack, Caroline, Erin, and Kiera and her daughter-in-laws Melissa and Jaime Kane.      Barbara earned her high school diploma from Chicopee High School, her bachelor's degree from Westfield State College and her Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Massachusetts. She dedicated 35 years to teaching in the Holyoke Public Schools and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Barbara was also an active member of her Lutheran congregations where she was a Eucharistic minister and Sunday school teacher.    Barb was a gifted artist who proudly donated her work to friends and family. She demonstrated her creativity in a variety of media that included stained glass, ceramics, painting, and knitting. Barb touched the lives of many people and had a positive influence on everyone around her; leaving the world in which she lived a better place.      A service is being held at her church in Florida, and another is being planned for her friends and family in Connecticut in May. Donations can be made in her honor online or by mail to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th floor, New York, NY 10022.
