Obituary

Bertha Alvina Gaulke Schroeder was born October 20, 1915, in Big Stone County, Minnesota, to Robert and Helena Gaulke. She was baptized November 28, 1915, by Rev. Max Melinot in Odessa Lutheran Church. She was confirmed April 13, 1930, in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Shible Township by Rev. Paul Gierke.She was united in marriage to Alfred Schroeder October 16, 1936, by Rev. Paul Gierke in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Shible. One child was born to this union, Marion Mavis Schroeder Ehrenberg. Bertha was a housewife and mother. She worked for five years at Finger Hut in Benson, 13 years at the Appleton Civic Center and 11 years at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Appleton. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering, and crocheting. She was always there to lend a helping hand where needed. Bertha and her husband lived for 39 years on a farm and later moved to Appleton. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Shible Township. Bertha died on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the age of 95 years, 10 months, and 27 days, at the Appleton Hospital. Bertha is survived by her daughter Marion and Kermit Ehrenberg of Appleton; grandchildren: Rick Ehrenberg of Appleton, Steve and Leslie Ehrenberg of Appleton, and Lorrie Ehrenberg of Madison; great-grandchildren: Joel and Suzie Ehrenberg of Dawson, Justin Ehrenberg of Madison, Tim and April Ehrenberg of Appleton, David Ehrenberg of Morris, and Melissa Ehrenberg of Appleton; great-great-grandchildren: Damon Coots and Zane Ehrenberg; two sisters: Lydia Schroeder and Renatta Lindstrom, both of Appleton; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred, grandson Kevin Ehrenberg, great-grandchildren Andy and Sara Ehrenberg, four brothers Arthur, Leo, Walter and Arnold Gaulke, and five sisters, Alma Bartz, Esther Bartz, Lily Wrobleski, Clara Shepard, and Evelyn Schlieman.
