Obituary

Bertice LeRoy Jacobson was born June 13, 1923 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Roy and Bertha (Vieman) Jacobson. He graduated from Benson High School. Bertice served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On April 5, 1945, Bertice was united in marriage to Loretta Marian Schirmer at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage by Pastor Swedberg. They were blessed with four children and 65 years of marriage. Bertice farmed in Cashel Township his entire life. He served on the Township Board and the District 21 School Board. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Other organizations he belonged to were the Farmer's Union, the VFW, the Masons, the Shriners, and he was a charter member of the Benson Lions. Among the things he enjoyed in his spare time were fishing, hunting and gardening. But he especially enjoyed his life's work of farming. Bertice was called from this life on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Benson. He attained the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 7 days. Bertice is survived by his wife, Loretta, of Benson; two sons: Roger (Beverly) Jacobson of Blomkest and Doug (fiancé Sue Lyback) of Deadwood, SD; two grandchildren: Robert Jacobson and Rowen Berry; five step-grandchildren: Anthony Flannigan, Terry Stefen, Tammy Meyer, Jordan Woosley, and Jessica Knutson; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruth (Robert) Sunde of Alexandria, and Luella (Robert) Christy of Florida; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his two sons: DuWayne and Kevin Jacobson; a grandson: Torrey Jacobson; and his parents.
