Betty Jane Atchison was born June 26, 1930 in Glenwood, Minnesota, the daughter of John C. and Stella I. (Morris) Pettit. She was baptized September 26, 1932 and confirmed into the Christian faith in Glenwood. Betty grew up in Glenwood and attended school through the tenth grade. On December 2, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Selmer Alsaker. This union was blessed with three children and 30 years of marriage. Selmer died in 1977. Betty worked egg candling in Glenwood. She moved to Benson and worked at the creamery and the feed store. She then worked in Willmar at Jennie-O, and lastly at Future Products in Benson. On August 8, 1980, Betty was married to Arnold Atchison in Benson. Betty was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the ladies circle at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church. Among the things she enjoyed were sewing, quilting, and knitting. Betty was called from this life on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. She attained the age of 79 years, 9 months and 9 days. Betty is survived by her husband, Arnie of Benson; her children: Brenda Mikres of White Bear Lake, Bruce Alsaker of White Bear Lake, Gary (Nancy) Alsaker of Benson; six grandchildren: Eric Alsaker, Jamie Alsaker, Clint Mikres, Amy Alsaker, Blake Mikres, and Brady Alsaker; six great grandchildren: Arianne Alsaker, Denise Alsaker, Brett Sulier, Kyla Alsaker, Cooper Mikres, and Adrian Alsaker-Young; a sister: Kathryn Kuka of Shakopee, MN; and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her first husband, Selmer; her parents, John and Stella; brother, Robert Pettit; and sisters: Esther Welsand, Ruth Overton, Lorraine Skeslien, Sharon Zaviska, and an infant sister Delores Pettit.
