Charles Burton Collins of
Sun City Center passed away
September 4th, 2015.
Charles was born in 1925 in Norfolk, VA.
He was the son of Dr. Robert S. Collins
and Dr. Alberta Burton-Collins.
Charles was a WWII veteran, who honorably
served in the Navy as a Medical Corpsman.
A graduate of Howard University; B.S.
Columbia University M .A. Psychology;
and Columbia M.A. Special Education.
Fraternal Organization: Omega Psi Phi.
Charles was a life long educator, retired from
The Board of Education, City of New York.
He devoted a large part of his life to
The HARYOU organization, of Harlem, New York,
where he worked for many years to increase the opportunities
for African American youths in education and employment.
Charles was a music enthusiast and appreciator of the arts.
His compassion and generosity was the core of his character.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years,
Carolyn, daughters Sharon, Carolyn II, Cathy and son in law Winthrop
and granddaughter Angela.
Charles's kind soul and wisdom
will endure in our loving memories.
In accordance with his wishes,
he will be cremated and buried
at Sarasota National Cemetery.
The family will hold a private service!
