Charles Philip (Phil) Weisz, 87, of Sun City Center, Florida passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2012. He spent his final hours surrounded by his immediate family. Phil was born in 1924 in Westfield, Ohio. After graduating from Westfield High School he attended the University of Colorado-­-Boulder where he received a B.S. degree in civil engineering. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees until 1946 when he joined the Naval Reserves and enrolled at Miami University of Ohio for post-­-graduate work. His military service culminated with him having achieved the rank of Lieutenant before he left the Reserves. In 1947, Phil married Hope Anable and they eventually settled in Louisville, KY where their son Stephen was born in 1950. Phil spent many years working for the engineering firm of Hazelet and Erdal, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio before joining the Wire Reinforcement Institute in Washington, D.C. in 1962 as a Director. After 13 years at WRI Phil then joined the Air Transport Association where he served as a Director for 15 years before retiring in 1990. Following Hope's passing in 2001, Phil relocated to Sun City Center. In addition to spending many hours working on his golf game, Phil enjoyed spending time with his friends and neighbors while bowling, at card games and attending other social events. Of course, he always made time to watch his favorite two sports teams the Tampa Bay Rays and the Washington Redskins. Phil is survived by his son, Steve; daughter-­-in-­-law Linda; grandchildren Scott and Kristen as well as his granddaughter-­-in-­-law Stephanie and great grandson Graham as well as his sister Cynthia Putt of Oregon. A private memorial will be held for the family at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests a donation to The Alexander Center for Neonatology at the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in Orlando in Phil's name.
