Obituary

David Carl Leneberg, 74, of Riverview, Florida.
Born December 20, 1941 and passed away on
Wednesday, December 23, 2015, in
Ruskin, Florida after a brief stay in hospice.

Born in Ann Arbor, MI, David was raised and
attended school in Durand (MI) until his graduation from high school.
Shortly after, he joined the United States Navy
and proudly served aboard the USS Albany as a radioman,
both during the Cuban Missile Crisis and
the earliest parts of the Vietnam War.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy,
David set his sights on Florida and all that it had to offer.
Exploring not only a new state, but a new life as a civilian,
he found the world of finance. By day, he was progressing
from doing small loans for vehicles to large
loans for earth-moving Caterpillar equipment.
By night, he was furthering his education at
both Hillsborough Community College and
the University of South Florida.
David reveled in all things numbers & finance.
Eventually, he set his sights on the land of mortgages
and set up his own mortgage lending company,
World Financial Services, Inc.

Early in his days of settling into Tampa,
David found a new love and beloved spouse in Carolyn Jean McElwain.
Married in 1968, they went on to have 2 children…
Christine and Jeremy. With their new family,
David and Carolyn decided to buy property in the
Riverview area and build their dream home.
A home that saw the growing of kids, family gatherings,
celebrations, and a host of milestones.
It is the home that they built
and share(d) until this very day.

David's interests and pursuits, both before
and after retirement, were many.
He worked tirelessly for nearly 2 decades as
the Chairman of the Lake Grady Road and
Bridge District that sought to protect and enhance
the lives of all the inhabitants (both people and wildlife)
in their rural section of Riverview.
He also served on their Homeowner's Association Board,
in various positions, to help give back to the
neighborhood that he loved for so long.
Blessed (or cursed) with a strange sense of humor…
he was just as likely to crack himself up more
than the person he was telling the joke to.
Dry humor was his specialty and he passed
that trait onto his children…for better or worse!
Lover of music…from "The Big Bopper" (his old CB handle),
Johnny Cash, to the old time church hymnals…
He'd belt them all out, loud and proud, and sometimes off-key.
Voracious reader of books…he was a speed reader,
so he has amassed a pristine collection of political tomes,
autobiographies, business, and technology books much
to the envy of a like-minded bibliophile!

Long-time friend…he was still hugely connected
to his school friends from Michigan and
active in their various email chats, reunions,
and visiting while on vacations with Carolyn.
Late in life dog lover…David found a sudden love
when he spotted a dog being fostered by his daughter.
Soon, he and Carol adopted 2 ShihTzus, Sneakers and Baby,
of which they are the proud "parents".

Active politically…As a proud Conservative,
he stayed up on politics, watched all the Fox news shows,
went to rallies, and was known for his politically-based collection
of cartoons/stories/etc which he would share with his many email friends.

There is no way to truly encompass all the
aspects that made David the man that he was.
Everyone has a moment, a story, a funny recollection
of time spent with him. He is remembered fondly,
missed greatly, and left much earlier than we would have wanted.

David leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn,
and their two dogs. His son, Jeremy, daughter-in-law, Beth,
and granddaughter, Alyssa. Also,
his daughter, Christine, daughter-in-law, Trish, and granddaughter,
Chloe.
David was preceded in death by his parents,
Veronica and Carl Leneberg, his brother,
Don, and Don's family.

Being that David and Carolyn both work(ed) at
the Boyette Springs Church of God Food Pantry,
the family is asking that any donations please be directed here.
