Della Anna Weeding was born May 18, 1911, in Diller, Nebraska to Ernest and Johannah (DeVries) Kunter. She was baptized June 25, 1911, and confirmed on March 28, 1926, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Della graduated from Ortonville High School in 1930.She married Joseph Weeding on September 3, 1931, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville. They were also "married" during Ortonville's first Sweet Corn Festival and were presented with lots of gifts during those hard times. They had three children: Richard, Donald, and Dianne.They lived in Milbank, SD, and Chicago, IL, before moving to Appleton and building the Appleton Meat Center in 1947. Della worked as cashier and bookkeeper for her husband. In her later years she worked for Super Valu and Don's Food Pride as a cashier, retiring in 1980. In her declining years she lived with her sister, Esther Kunter, at Pleasant View until her infirmities necessitated her to move to the nursing home.During her lifetime, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as an officer in the Trinity Guild and the Altar Guild. She was a lifetime member of the ETC sewing club. Her passion was growing flowers and quilting. She won many awards for her gladiolas; ever taking them to the Minnesota State Fair. She made each of her family members a hand-appliquéd quilt and also gave quilts to close friends. Della also liked playing cards.Della died on Thursday morning, March 10th, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 99 years, 9 months, and 22 days of age.She is survived by two children: Donald Weeding of Fridley, and Dianne VanBriesen of Appleton; daughter-in-law, Irene Weeding, of Appleton; five grandchildren: Bob (Cari) Weeding, Maxine (Merlin) Giese, Scott (Shari) VanBriesen, Marcie (Mark) Radtke, and Mark (Alexandra) Weeding; eight great-grandchildren; cousins: Jim (Lynda) Kunter of Carson City, NV, Dennis (Julie) Kunter of Angels Camp, CA, and Kathleen Judd of Carson City, NV; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.Della is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph, on May 11, 1990; son, Richard Weeding; granddaughter, Lisa Weeding; sister, Esther Kunter; son-in-law, Gerald VanBriesen; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Verna Kunter.
