Dorothy Alice Smith was born on December 19, 1922 in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Ada (Puckett) Smith. She grew up on the family farm near Montevideo, Minnesota. On June 17, 1940 Dorothy was united in marriage to Lester Smith at the Pilgrim Congregational Church of Christ in Benson. Together they were able to share nearly 70 years of marriage. This union was blessed with four children. Dorothy and Lester lived throughout Minnesota, including, Benson, Willmar, Austin and Alexandria. They also lived and worked in Texas and Colorado. In addition to caring for her family, Dorothy worked selling cosmetics, as a clothing store manager, and an apartment complex manager. Dorothy enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening, card playing and the occasional fishing excursion with Lester. Dorothy was called from this life on June 27, 2010 at the Bethesda Heritage Center nursing home in Willmar. She attained the age of 87 years, and 187 days. Dorothy is survived by three sons; Don (Marie) Smith of Bloomington, George (Noreen) Smith of Maple Grove, and Bob (Gloria) Smith of Aurora Colorado; 12 grandchildren, Jeff, Steve, Don, Erin, Matt, Lisa, Renee, Robbie, Kyle, Jared, Angela, and Julie; 15 great grandchildren, Cherette, Amanda, Brenda, Joseph, Patrick, Laura, Ben, Lauren, Cody, Grace, Jack, Alina, Parker, Ayden, and Ella; four great great grandchildren, Haley, Ryland, Carlos, and Lyra; son-in-law Sheldon Smith, Denton, Texas; one brother-in-law Clair (Darlyne) Smith, of Benson; two sister-in-laws; Lorraine (LaVerne) Skarsten, of Benson and Carole Anderson of Benson. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, parents; Ernest and Ada, sisters; Mary, Harriet, Irene and brothers; Richard, Ralph and Earl and daughter Deanna.
