Douglas Ray Woodard Sr., age 74, died at his home in Wimauma, Florida, on Monday, February 1,2010, after battling many years of illness. Doug was born November 27, 1935 in Knox County, Tennessee. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. During the last 15 years Doug was very involved in the high school football program at Providence Christian School of Riverview, Florida. Survivors include his devoted wife of 35 years, Alta; step mother Laura Woodard; his sister, Debbie Woodard, his brother Duncan Woodard; daughter, Susan Walker, grandchildren Jennifer Schmucker and Sara Fraley; son Douglas Ray Woodard Jr. (J.W.) and wife April, grandchildren Orrin Douglas Woodard and Dakota Breanne Woodard. Pursuant to Doug's wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Days Saints, in Ruskin, Florida on Saturday February 6th, 2010 at 2 pm. Doug's ashes will be placed by his father, A.D. Woodard, in Kentucky at a later date. Donations in Doug's memory may be made to the Providence Christian School football program, 5416 Providence Road, Riverview FL, 33578, a program which he love greatly.
