Edna Louise (Bagstad) Lee was born September 5, 1922 in Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl Oscar and Minnie (Frederick) Bagstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm between Benson and Swift Falls and lived there until she was in high school when her family moved to Benson. She went to District #64 School through 8th grade. She then attended Benson High School and graduated in 1940. She wanted to go to Normal School to become a teacher but because of the war she had to go to work following high school. On November 4, 1945, Edna was united in marriage to Theodore W. (Bill) Lee at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson. They were blessed with a daughter and 52 years of marriage. Edna lived and worked in Benson her whole life. She worked for Jewel Tea in sales and then for several grocery stores, including Red Owl and Super Value, as a checkout clerk and bookkeeper. In the early 60's she worked as the bookkeeper for Krohn Pontiac and Buick and finished her career with Great Plains Gas until they closed their Benson office in the late 1970's. She belonged to an Our Redeemer's circle and for many years made Scandinavian fare for the Smorgasbord. Her joy was always her family, her home and her dogs and her time was dedicated to them. She also loved her yard and garden and visiting with her neighbors. She was very bright and well read. To the very end, she worked cross word puzzles every day and could add long columns of numbers in her head. She balanced her checkbook to the penny every month - never using a calculator! Edna was called from this life on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She attained the age of 88 years, 5 months and 7 days. Edna is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lee Saunders of Minneapolis; 2 granddaughters: Erin (Jim) Gaines of Minneapolis and Regan (Jeff Iblings) Saunders of Minneapolis; a brother, Lowell (Eleanor) Bagstad of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents and two sisters Ruby Blum and Lillian Douglas.
