Eleanor Viola VanderWeyst was born March 3, 1918 in Clontarf, Minnesota, the daughter of Oliver Joseph and Sylvia (Chevalier) Goulet. She was baptized in Clontarf and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, where she was a life long member. She grew up and attended school in Clontarf. Eleanor was united in marriage to Aloyious 'Ike' VanderWeyst on June 20, 1938 and June 20, 1975. This union was blessed with three children. After their marriage, they lived in Benson. Eleanor worked at Rangaards Café, Gambles Hardware, Wonderalls in Willmar, the Benson Bakery and Ben Franklin in Benson. She was a member of the Senior Advocacy Group, the Council of Catholic Women, the Senior Citizen Group, and she volunteered for many years at Meadow Lane Health Care Center. Among the things she enjoyed were sewing, crocheting, embroidery, ceramics and dancing. Her grandchildren are enjoying the handmade items she made for them. Eleanor was called from this life on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Park View Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota. She attained the age of 92 years, 4 months and 17 days. Eleanor is survived by her children: Dolly (Gene) Roberts of Benson, Judy (Dennis) Sanders of Buffalo, Mary Lou (Daniel) Diederich of St. Michael; her step-children: James VanderWeyst of Appleton and Tony (Deb) VanderWeyst of De Graff; 19 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Myrtle Klassen; and two sisters-in-law: Doris Goulet and Bernice Goulet. Preceding her in death were her husband Ike in 2001; brothers: Adlore and Herman Goulet; an infant brother, Richard; sisters: Lillian, Leona, Adeline, Theresa; and two infant sisters: Pearl, and Hazel.
