Obituary

Emery Paul Carlson was born March 16, 1925 in Louriston Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the son of Emery Edward and Hannah (Westberg) Carlson. Emery was baptized in Montevideo and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Louriston Township. He grew up in Chippewa County, attending District 38 Louriston Township School and graduated from Murdock High School in 1943. On November 18, 1943, Emery entered the United States Army, serving his country at Amarillo Army Air Field, Amarillo, Texas. He returned home after his September 5, 1944 Honorable Discharge. On September 3, 1948, Emery was united in marriage to Edith Maxine Felton in Kerkhoven at the Baptist Church. The couple was blessed with 1 child and 39 years of marriage. Emery worked at the Kerkhoven Bank and then went into farming for 35 years. He retired in Benson, MN. Emery was called from this life on Thursday, March 1, 2012. He attained the age of 86 years, 11 months and 14 days. Through the years, Emery enjoyed fishing, hunting deer, woodworking, dancing, playing the organ, piano, and accordion. He also enjoyed spending many hours with his short wave radio, talking with people all around the world. Emery is survived by his sister: Meredith (Milton) Froehlich of Annandale, MN; sister in-law: Agnes Carlson of Willmar, MN, special friend: Mae Staton of Willmar, MN and several nieces and a nephew. Preceding him in death were his parents: Emery E. and Hannah Carlson; his wife Maxine on April 28, 1988; a son, Gerald "Jerry" Carlson in 1987; a brother: Curtis Carlson; and a sister: Loraine Norrander.
