Ernest Piazza 89, died peacefully at home in Sun City Center, Florida on September 26, 2022.
Born in Cranston Heights, Delaware on September 3, 1933, Ernie spent his early years in
Cranston Heights, graduating from Brown Vocational High School. He joined the United States
Navy in 1950 and served on the U.S.S. Mole. During his service he circled the world. Ernie was
a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
After his discharge from the Navy, Ernie was employed by the NVF company. He joined the
Delaware Air National Guard, becoming a member of the DANG fire company. He retired from
the Guard, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sargent.
Ernie was a lifetime member of the Cranston Heights Fire Company where he served as a Fire
Chief. He was dedicated and passionate in serving his community as a fire fighter. He
participated in many other local area fire companies including the Camden-Wyoming, Delaware
company.
Ernie was preceded in death by his father Anthony Piazza, his mother Margaret DeRose Piazza,
his sisters Marguerite Piazza and Patricia Gilliand, as well as his brothers Ralph, Raymond and
Armond, his son James Michael Piazza and his daughter Stephanie Reddick.
Ernie is survived by his children Ernest P. Piazza, Jr. (Heidi), Lawrence Piazza (Paula), his
sisters Rosemary Piazza (Thomas DiLuzio) and Evelyn Casalena (Dr. Herbert) and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Internment was arranged by Zipperer's Funeral Home in Ruskin, Florida. A
private burial was held in Florida.
