Esther Elizabeth Kunter was born at Twin Brooks, South Dakota on February 24, 1915, to Ernest and Johannah Geraldine (DeVries) Kunter. She was baptized at her parents' home on March 28, 1915, and was confirmed on June 8, 1930, by Rev. Hartman. Esther attended Ortonville High School and graduated in 1933.In 1936 she moved to Chicago, Il, and worked at Montgomery Wards in the mail order department. In January, 1944, she was promoted to Accuracy Auditor in the Controller's Division. She transferred to general cashiering as accounting clerk. In January, 1948, she became accounting clerk in the accounting department and in February, 1951, she was promoted to bookkeeper, Junior. In 1953 she was promoted to budget control clerk in the budget and control department. Esther retired from Montgomery Wards in 1980 and then moved to Appleton and lived with Joe and Della Weeding.She was a member of Jehovah Lutheran Church in Chicago and Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. She also was a member of the ETC Sewing Club for many years. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing golf.Esther died on Monday evening, August 23rd, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 95 years, 5 months, and 29 days of age.She is survived by her sister, Della Weeding, of Appleton; three nephews: Donald Weeding of Fridley, Jim (Lynda) Kunter of Carson City, NV, and Dennis (Julie) Kunter of Angels Camp, CA; three nieces: Dianne VanBriesen of Appleton, Kathleen Judd of CA, and Irene Weeding of Appleton; and many great nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Verna Kunter; brother-in-law, Joseph Weeding; three nephews: Richard Weeding, Gerald VanBriesen, and Larry Kunter; niece, Lisa Weeding; and special friend, Arne Nideng.
