Evelyn Marie Schmidt was born October 22, 1916, in Shible Township, Swift County to Gustav and Sophie (Rheingans) Semler. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at the EUB Church in Correll. She graduated from Correll High School and attended McPhale School of Music in Minneapolis where she was awarded a vocal scholarship.Evelyn was united in marriage to Alvin Schmidt on September 19, 1940. Evelyn's faith was very important to her. She enjoyed reading her Bible. Over the past 15 years she read her Bible from Genesis to Revelations every year. She said that she always found something new each time that she read it. She was active in her church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school, served on church boards and was very active in the woman's organization.She was always interested in what her grandchildren and great-nephews and niece were involved in. She loved listening to all the sports events on her radio. Evelyn loved to sew, bake, garden, and entertain friends with her good cooking.Evelyn died on Saturday. February 4th, at Appleton Area Health Services. She was 95 years, 3 months, and 12 days of age.She is survived by two children: Cathy (and Paul J.) Olson of Appleton and Cary (Yvonne) Schmidt of Richfield; four grandchildren: Christopher (Becky) Olson, Melissa (Robert) Enevoldsen, Sarah (Rolando) Carranza, and Kate Schmidt; two great-grandchildren: Chase and Blake Olson; two sisters-in-law: Lao Semler and Phyllis Petrick; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin, on November 28, 1996; her sister, Mavis Semler; and his brother, Lynn "Bud" Semler.
