Franklin Sutton Calmes passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday June 27, 2018 at 8:56 am. He was 89 years old and lived a wonderful life. He was born on April 27, 1929 in Evelyn, Kentucky. He was fifth of nine children born to DeWitt Talmage Calmes and Dovie Spicer.
One of many things he was proud of was having a 35 year long career with Caterpillar Tractor Company, working his way up from a large computer operator to management of semi monthly and monthly payroll, retiring after 35 years with the company in 1985. Ending his working career, he held a final position as a Real Estate Broker representing the company by purchasing properties as needed for years of growth.
Along with these accomplishments, he served as President of the Data Processing Management Association. Most of his life he spent living in Pekin, Illinois, from 1948 to 2014. He resided in Sun City Center, Florida in his final years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, attending auctions and telling many stories. He lit up the room with his personality and smile.
He met his wife of 68 years, Phyllis J. Hess as Berea College in 1947. She was his "movie star." October 15th of this would have been 69 wonderful years of marriage. His family was the most important thing to him. Together Frank and Phyllis had two sons, Franklin S. Calmes Jr. and Gregory S. Calmes. He had three grand children; Chad Calmes, Chelsea Calmes and Shelby Calmes, and five great grand children. He had a tremendous impact on all of their lives and loved them all dearly.
