Frieda Helen (Lownsdale) Scarboro,
known to her friends and family as
Helen Scarboro of Wimauma, Florida,
was born August 11, 1933 in Farmers, Kentucky.
She met, was courted by, and then married
Jerry Scarboro on September 9, 1950 in Miami, Florida.
Helen and Jerry enjoyed over 64 years as husband
and wife until her passing on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
She was predeceased by her loving mother,
Leila Lownsdale.
Helen is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Scarboro,
and four children, Jay Scarboro "Marion", Jan Scarboro Hutchins "Bo",
Gary Scarboro, and Scott Scarboro;
seven grandchildren, Jason Scarboro, Chad Scarboro,
Blake Van Weelde, Taylor Van Weelde, Garrison Scarboro,
Christian Scarboro and Brandi Scarboro,
four great-grandchildren; and two siblings,
Brother, Jack Lownsdale and Sister, Roberta Richardson.
Helen exemplified devotion to her husband,
children, and the community throughout her life.
She demonstrated passion for educating and leading
others through her roles as a Kindergarten Teacher at
Northside Baptist Church in Ruskin, Florida, and through
her 33 years of service with the Hillsborough County School
Board as an Assistant Teacher at Wimauma Elementary School in Wimauma, Florida.
As a member of the First Baptist Church of Wimauma since 1955,
Helen positively influenced countless individuals as a Sunday School Teacher,
Sunday School Director, Church Pianist, Duet Singer with her husband,
Social Event Host, supporter of missionaries abroad,
and local missions.
Helen was a supportive and strong community leader.
Some of the hallmarks of Helen's long term successful relationship with her husband,
were her abilities to encourage his individual hobbies,
engage in her own, and to actively participate in their joint activities
such as Ballroom Dancing Lessons and attending Christian Clown College.
Throughout her life, Helen and Jerry created great memories for their
children through numerous camping and fishing trips to Fisheating Creek
and through regular family gatherings each year for Holidays and Birthdays.
She and Jerry served as fine examples in life and as role models in marriage.
The funeral service will take place on
Friday, May 1, 2015,
at the First Baptist Church of Wimauma,
5701 Camp Street, Wimauma, Florida, 33598.
Visitation will be at 11 am,
the service at 12 noon,
followed by interment at Fellowship Cemetery.
