Obituary

Gladys Melvine Rois was born November 11, 1914 in Rolling Forks Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Sigwart A. and Genette P. (Oleson) Simonson. She was baptized at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church and confirmed by Rev. Beito at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church. She graduated from Pope County District #14, and then graduated from Glenwood High School, completed teacher's training, and taught school in rural Glenwood. On June 12, 1935, Gladys was united in marriage to Lawrence W. Rois. The couple was blessed with three children and more than 46 years of marriage. Gladys helped on the family farm all of her married life. She worked at the Benson Golf Club and did catering with Irene Sorenson. In addition, she was a skilled seamstress, helping others for many years. Gladys was actively involved in the Lutheran Church, most recently Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Torning Twelve, Homemakers Club, Good Will Club, VFW Post #1403 Ladies Auxiliary, and Sons of Norway. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, crocheting, needlework, and was an avid fan of Major League Baseball. She loved to share her warm hospitality by cooking and baking for others. Gladys was called from this life at Golden Living Center on Sunday, April 22, 2012. She attained the age of 97 years, 5 months and 11 days. Gladys is survived by her children: Glenn (Marjorie) Rois of Benson, MN, William (Janet) Rois of Wilmot, SD, Jane (Paul) Kalkbrenner of Muskegon, MI; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents Sigwart and Genette; husband Lawrence in 1982; brother Clarence Simonson; sisters, Marie Haugen, Cora Lesteberg, Geneve Ring, Evelyn Hare, Florance Christenson, and Florence Simonson.
