Harold "Lee" L. Staples, Jr. passed away peacefully
at his home in Sun City, FL on March 12th.
Lee was born on June 3, 1937 to
Dr. Harold Leland Staples and Eugenia Koch Staples
of Hamden, CT.
He graduated from Cheshire Academy
and went on to earn degrees in management and economics
from the University of Vermont where
he was a member of the Delta Psi fraternity
and the alpine ski team.
Lee earned the rank of Sergeant in the Army National Guard
and served as a sharpshooter.
He later formed his company Staples Builders in Newfane,
Vermont that designed and constructed custom homes.
In 1974, he moved his young family to Florida and
spent the next 25 years at Robbins Lumber Company
selling lumber before retiring to pursue his loves of fishing,
sailing, boats and horses.
Lee was a lifelong member of the Freemasons
Organization and lived his life practicing
the values of brotherly love, honor and charity.
He is survived by his two children;
son Harold L. Staples III and daughter-in-law Mara of Philadelphia, PA,
and his daughter Anne K. Haudenschild, son-in-law Dominik and
granddaughter Mia of Davis, CA,
and his sister Dawn Davidson and
brother-in-law Marshall of Hamden, CT.
As per Lee's request there was no official ceremony.
His ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of Anna Maria Island, FL.
A moment of silence was held with friends at E.G. Simmons Park,
which Lee commonly referred to as his "cathedral".
