Obituary

Harry Meredith Barduson was born on June 17, 1923, in Chippewa County, Minnesota, the son of Thideman and Hattie (Nordby) Barduson. He was called from this life on March 3, 2009 at the Appleton Area Health Care Center. He attained the age of 85 years, 8 months and 16 days. Harry was baptized on July 8, 1923, and confirmed into the Christian faith on July 4, 1937, both at Big Bend Lutheran Church by Rev. C.T. Jenson. He grew up on the family farm, and attended school at District #72. He graduated from Appleton High School with the Class of 1941. On July 18, 1948, Harry was united in marriage to Arlys Ingeborg Welker, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Benson by Rev. Harold S. Nasheim. To this union, four daughters and one son were born. Together Harry and Arlys were able to share in 51 years of marriage. Harry farmed outside of Danvers and enjoyed raising animals, especially many varieties of chickens. His first priority was his wife and family. He served as treasurer of the West Bank Township for 41 years, was a member of the Swift County Fair Board for 30 years, and worked with the Horticulture area at the fair over 40 years. Harry was a life-time member of the Big Bend Lutheran Church, held Council positions of Vice President, Deacon, Head Usher, and Board of Education. He was a member of the Big Bend Aces 4-H Club of seven years and Club Leader for 25 years. Among the things Harry enjoyed were attending his children and grandchildren's events, visiting with family and friends, growing flowers, sports, reading, jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. Harry is survived by four daughters: Karen (Michael) Kellner of Benson, Sandra (Rodney) Lye of Danvers, Nancy (John) Fridgen of Wheaton, and Pamela Olsen (Kevin Rose) of Salem, OR; one son Thomas (Tammy) Barduson of Danvers; eight grandchildren: Sarah (Pat) Lundebrek, Matthew (Jess) Fridgen, Marty (Toni) Fridgen, Katie (Brian) Petrak, Jed Lye, Samuel Lye, Macy Fridgen, and Thomas Lye; four great granddaughters: Ellie Moesenthin, Abigail, Madelyne and Piper Fridgen; two step great granddaughters: Kaitlyn and Madisen Lundebrek; one sister, Marie (Bill) Welker of Willmar; two brothers: Robert (Angie) Barduson of St. Paul and Odell (Barb) Barduson of Hastings; sister-in-law, Lola Chesick of Willmar; brother-in-law, Delmar Loen of Glenwood; brother-in-law, Neil (Mona) Welker of Willmar; one aunt, Mabel Barduson of Madison; many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and his many good friends. Harry was preceded in death by his wife Arlys; his parents, Thideman and Hattie Barduson; two brothers-in-law, John Chesick and Keith Welker; two sisters-in-law Audrey Loen and Barb Welker.
