In Loving Memory of Harry Lawrence Braun

Harry Lawrence Braun, age 77, passed away after a short illness on January 21, 2020 in Sun City Center.

Born on February 9, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Harry grew up in Wilkinsburg and attended Wilkinsburg High School before marrying the love of his life, Jill (Helsel).

Harry and Jill raised their five kids in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, where chaos ensued 24/7 and no one recalls a moment of silence. During these years, Harry liked to join friends at the local firehall, Elks Club, and other similar establishments to talk about sports, politics, and life.

Whenever he had the chance, Harry bragged about his kids and his wife, and when the grandkids came along, he bragged about them as well.

He had many jobs during his lifetime but his primary jobs were as a steelworker for Vesuvius Crucible and, later, as a school bus driver. He often told tales of the children he transported, many of whom came from troubled homes. He was always concerned about the students and took their care very seriously.

In his free time, he enjoyed flea marketing, purchasing lottery tickets, rooting for the Steelers, and acquiring a collection of Steelers and Penguins ballcaps. Harry was also known to enjoy Miller Lite, something his adult sons frequently teased him about.

In 2010, he retired to Florida, where he and Jill passed their time with their beloved dogs (Mika and Rosie) and enjoyed frequent visits from family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Loretta and Harry Braun; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Don Vogel; and brother-in-law Tom Windress.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jill Braun; children, Jeff (Sharon) Braun, Jim (Stacie) Braun, Cyndi (Tim) Crossland, Chris Braun, and Doug (Joanne) Braun; sister, Kathy Windress, brother, Bob (Diane) Braun; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; loving in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Harry's request, no services will be held. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HumaneSocietyTampa.org).
