Obituary

Henri P. Valois of Sun City Center, Florida was the beloved husband and devoted father of three, died at home on August 21, 2021 surrounded by his caring family. Henri was seventy-nine years old, born on July 9, 1942 in Woonsocket, RI. He was the son of the late Philias and Yvonne (Brodeur) Valois of Bellingham, MA. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Celine Bliss and Pauline Benoit.

Henri was a native Rhode Islander. Graduating from St. Francis High School in Biddeford, ME and working at Valois Family Meat Center, a family business, in Woonsocket, RI until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While he did not see wartime, Henri was sent to United States Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was positioned as a linguist focusing on French translations. Following his honorable discharge from service, Henri spent his career as a meat cutter.
On May 30, 1964, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline (Jackie) Blanchard. Together they spent fifty-seven beautiful years. They raised their family in Rhode Island and enjoyed retirement years in Florida.
Henri pursued many interests with enthusiasm and excellence throughout a long and well-lived life. He was active with projects at home, often building or learning new skills.

Henri had an adventurous spirit traveling to Europe, Egypt and Canada, skydiving, hot air ballooning; even as a young father, he set out to build a sailboat in his basement with his nephew.

Henri was well-read and a freethinker, having a wide range of talents, skills and interests. He was a master gardener, a classical music and opera aficionado, a general repairman, an emergency "plumber", a connoisseur of freshly baked bread, a movie buff, a problem solver, a compassionate listener, a carpenter and a furniture-maker.

Henri was a self-taught woodworker whose skills at his craft was built over years of dedication and practice. In Rhode Island, his home always had a shop and a project underway. After retiring to Florida, he became a member and Vice President of Kings Point Woodchoppers Club. He was instrumental in many improvements to the club. Going to the "shop" each morning, he found true camaraderie with the members and honed this time-honored craft. Believing that "What I make is for others, How I make it is for me."

In his waning months, he took any chance to visit with his friends and family, spend time in the shop or go for a ride with Jackie. We thank the associates of LifePath Hospice for all the support provided.

Henri leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline (Blanchard) Valois from Florida, three daughters Jocelyne Dauphinais and son-in-law Emile of Florida, Nichole Valois of Massachusetts and Simone Valois of Rhode Island and two grandsons Chad Dauphinais and wife Kelli of Florida and Scott Dauphinais of North Carolina. Also mourning his death are his sister Lucille Forest and husband Arthur of Rhode Island, Albert Benoit brother-in-law of South Dakota and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and his many cherished friends.
