Henry Elmer Slaughter was born February 20, 1935, in Jackson County, Minnesota, the son of Rennie E. and Emma (Hanson) Slaughter. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He grew up in the Benson area and attended country school through the eighth grade. Henry served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. On April 6, 1956, Henry was united in marriage to Margaret "Mickey" Larson at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. They were blessed with three children. Together, Mickey and Henry were married nearly 45 years. Henry drove truck for Murdock Elevator, Jacobson Transport and Ferrell Gas. He owned and operated a plumbing shop in Murdock for several years. Among the things he enjoyed were playing cards, shaking dice, tinkering in the garage and fixing things. Henry is survived by his children: Steven (Maree) Slaughter of Benson and Sheila (Rob) Hurley of Dawson; twelve grandchildren; his son-in-law, Richard Johnson of Willmar; two brothers: Palmer (Marcia) Slaughter of Benson and Willard (Blanche) Slaughter of Litchfield; two sisters: Florence (Larry) Yates of Renton, Washington and Amie Holm of Appleton; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife Mickey in 2001; a daughter Mary Lou Johnson; his parents Rennie and Emma; brothers: Harlan, Edward and Leonard Slaughter; and sisters: Hazel, Millie, Lorraine, and Leona.
