With a heavy heart,
I pass on the news that my father
Irwin Dawley passed at Plaza West,
Sun City Center, Florida on 14 April 2017.
A memorial service will be conducted on
20 April at 1000 hrs at the main
Freedom Plaza building in Sun City Center.
At his request,
his ashes will be interred with military honors at
the Sarasota Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
The date and time of the interment is still being scheduled.
It is likely to be the afternoon of the 20th or on the 21st of April.
Irwin Frank Dawley Jr., 86, formerly of New London
and Waterford, retired in Sun City Center, FL.
Mr. Dawley was born on June 2, 1931 in Westerly, RI,
the son of late Irwin and Florence (Betty) Dawley.
He graduated from High School in New London.
He worked for Woolworths and then Electric Boat,
General Dynamics till retiring in 1979 as a senior electrical designer.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1948 and
was activated for duty in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.
He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Connecticut National Guard in 1979.
He was active in Scouting, the American Legion,
the Order of the Elks and Friendship Force.
He interests were photography and collecting Army unit insignia.
He was active in the New London Methodist
and Mystic Baptist churches.
He is survived by his
wife Shirley and son David.
In lieu of flowers,
my father would have appreciated any
donations to groups that assist our veterans.
Irwin and Shirley's previous address (and phone)
at 813 Freedom Plaza Circle is no longer valid.
Shirley is suffering short term memory loss and has
now moved to the Homewood Assisted Living Facility
at 3910 Galen Court, Apt 2112, Sun City Center, FL 33573.
It is located in the same general area as the Freedom Plaza complex.

or nursing home care since November of 2016.
He was a patriot, may he rest in peace.
