Isidro Morell's humble journey began on the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico during the depression era of the mid 1930's. He was 1 of 11 siblings born to Antonio and Elisa Morell. By his18th birthday he was serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Service, he returned to his homeland where his first two children were born: son Isidro Jr. and daughter Gretchen. Seeking a better life, he moved to NY City in the late 1950's before moving to Chicago.
In Chicago he met the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Amelia (Maya). There, they had 3 children, son Eliel, son Mervyn and daughter Milca. He worked as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority until the early 1970's when he moved his family back to Puerto Rico and they had one last child, son Neftali (Tito).
Finally settling down permanently in the Tampa Bay Area in the late 1970's, this longtime Bay Area resident of 45 years worked mostly for himself as a residential painter before retirement, and then later in life worked an additional 20+ years at Publix stores in Sun City Center and Apollo Beach. His years at Publix were like therapy to him, he would say, almost like a second family.
Affectionately called Izzy by his family, friends and coworkers, his warm infectious smile and gentle demeanor were known to all who met him. He was a patriotic veteran as well as a devoted family man who loved God, his family and his country. Always willing to help someone in need, he exercised his faith by sacrificing himself for others, meeting their needs before his own.
He was a huge Rays, Bucs and Lightning fan who loved to laugh and have fun while rooting for the Home Team. He was a faithful husband, nurturing father and loving grandfather. A true surrendered servant of Jesus Christ who was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, 4 sons, 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
