They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, in 1982 where they resided for thirty-four years until retiring to Apollo Beach, Florida, in 2016. In her 40s, Janet earned a Bachelor's degree in social work from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Master's degree in social work from the Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville. She worked many years for Hospice of Louisville (now called Hosparus). She loved that work and was known for her kindness and gentleness at consoling the dying and their families.

Janet leaves her husband, Al; daughter, Julie (Shane); sons, Thomas and Daniel; as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She will be also be missed by other family members and long-standing friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Myles and Marion Nuttall; her oldest son, Martin; and sisters, Barbara Melvin and Mary Rouine.

In the early 2000s, Janet and Al worked with their own hands in finishing a cabin in the woods where they enjoyed many weekends, often entertaining their grandchildren. Janet and Al were fortunate in having the opportunity to make many memorable trips in this country and overseas, including a never to be forgotten month spent in five countries in Africa in 2016.

In her retirement, Janet was a member of the Southshore Falls Women's Social Club and was very active in a sewing group, making many quilts and decorative items for her own home and those of family members. She was also an avid reader, especially of historical fiction. Janet did volunteer work for an organization called Bookworks, reading to and providing books for pre-school children.

Services will be held at Saint Anne Catholic Church in Ruskin, Florida, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, and at Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church in Louisville, Kentucky, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

The family is grateful for the excellent care Janet received from the staff of Life Path Hospice and also suggests that for those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
