Janice Mae (Arndt) Haugen was born on May 29, 1937, in Appleton, the daughter of John and Alvina (Schwartz) Arndt. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shible Township, by Pastor Gierke on June 22, 1937, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran, by Pastor Walter on April 1, 1951. Janice was a 1955 graduate of Appleton High School.On June 10, 1955, Janice was united to Sidney Haugen at Immanuel Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born.In 1961 Janice was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and in August 1978, at the age of forty-one her deteriorating health required a move to the Appleton Nursing Home. During her thirty-three years in the care center her family and friends who visited brought her much joy. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo, and taking part in the many activities provided by the wonderful staff and her church circle group. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 3, 2012, with her daughter at her side, Janice was peacefully called from this life. Janice was 74 years, 5 months, and 4 days of age.Janice is survived by her daughters: Peggy (Paul) Hill, Dawson; Patty (Webb) Ashling, Kerkhoven; Pam (Bob) Boraas, Benson; Paula Haugen (special friend, Mike Olson), St. Cloud; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; an uncle, Alvin Hanson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.Preceding her in death were her infant son, Steven Haugen; her parents, John and Alvina Arndt; sisters, Shirley Arndt and Carol Wilkening; and several uncles and aunts.
