Obituary

John Robert Buyck was born October 18, 1917, in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, the son of Ernest F. and Angeline (Van de Voorde) Buyck. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Catholic Church in Walnut Grove. He attended grade school at District #62 in Johnsonville Township, and completed high school in Walnut Grove. On April 10, 1944, John was united in marriage to Pearl Ida Noding in Windom, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with three children and 66 years of marriage. They lived and farmed in Walnut Grove until 1950, when they moved to a farm in Tara Township near Danvers. In 1985, they moved to an apartment in Benson. John drove school bus for the Clontarf and Benson school districts for 36 years. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and in 1992 was honored for Outstanding Citizen of Swift County. Among the things John enjoyed were driving school bus, farming, fishing, traveling, playing Black Jack, and casino hopping. John was called from this life on Monday, June 7, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Benson. He attained the age of 92 years, 7 months and 19 days. John is survived by his wife Pearl of Benson; three children: Cynthia (Dr. Edward) Chua of North Oaks, Jon Scott Buyck of Edina, and Boyd (Patricia Keen) Buyck of Danvers; seven grandchildren: Erika (George) Hawkins, Dr. Angela (Dr. David) Tridgell, Matthew (Erica Anderson) Chua, Jeanine Buyck, Kathryn Buyck, Mark Buyck, and Maggie Rose Buyck; two great grandchildren: Anna Hawkins and Eli Hawkins; sister Kathryn Swoffer of Sleepy Eye; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Angeline; a brother Donald; and a sister, Martha.
