Obituary

Juliet Avelsgaard was born on September 11, 1915, at Hantho Township, Lac qui Parle County, to parents John L. and Jonetta (Moen) Hastad. She was baptized at her parent's home and confirmed at Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church. Juliet attended rural school at Hantho Township and attended Appleton High School.On July 13, 1934, she was married to Orville J. Avelsgaard by Pastor Onerheim. Juliet's main occupation was working as a farm wife and homemaker. She also worked at Fingerhut in Benson and was owner of Mike & Tom's Drive-Inn.She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zion Ladies Aid. She also belonged to the Hantho Sewing Club, was a volunteer for the Senior Citizen Nutrition Center, a volunteer at the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home, and a volunteer for the Green Thumb program. Juliet enjoyed bowling, playing card with the grandchildren, and playing Rook with her brothers and sisters. She had a great sense of humor, was an excellent conversationalist, and had unconditional love of her family.Juliet died on Monday morning, June 29, at the Perham Memorial Home. She had attained 93 years, 9 months, and 18 days of age.She is survived by five children: Orlen (Sharon) Avelsgaard of Appleton, Ruth Ann (Phillip) Nash of Springfield, VA, Martin (Marie) Avelsgaard of Benson, Michael (Peggy) Avelsgaard of Ottertail, and Thomas (Caryn) Avelsgaard of Victoria, Australia; eight grandchildren: Michele (Allen) Engholm, Jason (Gay Lynn) Avelsgaard, Carmela (Thomas) Calhoun, Pamela (Timothy) Hoyer, Amy (Aaron) Roggenbuck, Sarah (Ken) Dombeck, Christina (Kirk) Eilertson, and Julian Avelsgaard; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Morris (Delores) Hastad, of Madison; two sisters: Glenda Nelson of St. Cloud, and Helen Wilkening of Appleton; two sisters-in-law: Delores Hastad and Myrtle Hastad both of Madison; brother-in-law, Frank Aiello, of Martinez, CA; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.She is preceded in death by her parents John and Jonetta Hastad; her husband, Orville, in November of 1976; grandson, Peter Nash; three brothers: Iver, Helmer, and Johnnie Hastad; and four sisters: Ruth Torstenson, Selma Torstenson, Jane Williamson, and Lillie Aiello.
