Karen Kathaleen Hosman
January 21, 1938 - May 13, 2017
Karen K. Hosman was born in Kewanee, IL on January 21, 1938. Karen passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her husband and family on May 13, 2017.
She attended the University of Illinois (1957-1960) where she earned her degree in Music and met her future husband of 57 years, Henry "Hank" R. Hosman, Colonel (ret).
Karen had many talents. She was an accomplished musician with her primary instrument being the cello which she played in the Fairfax County Symphony. She loved creating beautiful quilts for family and charitable organizations. She was an avid needle pointer and, until her passing, enjoyed creating hand-made greeting cards with her wonderful ladies group.
As the wife of a military officer she moved no less than 30 times making her final home in Sun City Center, FL. She made many friends in her community through her favorite activities, which included: clogging, tapping, the annual Follies, and frequent vacation cruises. She was fortunate to have friends of 60 years, Jim and Janet Shumway, living in her neighborhood.
She was deeply loved by her college sweetheart and husband, Henry R. Hosman and by her "girls", Deb Hosman and Suzanne Michell Hosman.
She is survived by her husband, Henry R. Hosman; 2 daughters: Deb Hosman of Tampa and Suzie Hosman of Chapel Hill, NC (son-in-law, Dominic Ciavatta); 3 grandchildren: Nicole, Gianna and Jarrod; her sister, Judith Finley of Casper, WY and brother, William R. Smith, III, of Sun City Center.
Karen was a member of Cavalry Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at the church at a later date. Her final resting place will be the Sarasota National Cemetery.
