Lawrence August Carl Rohloff was born on December 29, 1918 in Fairfield Township, Swift County, to William Carl and Edna (Baumgartner) Rohloff. He was baptized on January 22, 1919 and confirmed on March 20, 1932, both at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. Lawrence attended country school through the eighth grade.Lawrence grew up in the Holloway area and worked for an ice company in Glenwood prior to his marriage. On March 10, 1943, he was married to Bernadine Gades at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. After their marriage they farmed in the Holloway area, nine years in the Hancock area, and then in the Holloway area until his retirement.He was a member of the Tara Township board, Farm Bureau, and was involved in the church choir, as a council member, the men's group, and Sunday School Superintendent of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Lawrence died on Saturday afternoon, February 7th, at the Madison Lutheran Home. He had attained 90 years, 1 month, and 8 days of age.He is survived by his wife, Bernadine, of Benson; three children: Kenneth (Carol) Rohloff of Danvers, Karen (Lyle) Schake of Madison, and Brenda (Allan) Oyen of Appleton; eight grandchildren: Scott (Roberta) Schake, Jim (Kristie) Schake, Lisa Larson (special friend, Randy Bergerson), Lori (Lance) Swanke, Rick (Deb) Rohloff, Randy (Jessica) Rohloff, Dawn (Jon) Olson, and Jim (Sarah) Oyen; 11 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Gage, and Caiden Swanke, Brock and Parker Rohloff, Taylor and Kristi Larson, Sarah and Emily Schake, and Ross and Cassidie Olson; sister, Milda Reu, of Fort Collins, CO; nieces, nephews, and several other extended family members.He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Michael Allan Oyen; and brother-in-law, Herb Reu.
