Obituary

Luella Friedrich, 91, of St. James and formerly of Appleton, died on Saturday at St. James. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 2:00 PM, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton with Pastor Phil Ostlund officiating. Interment will be at the Appleton City Cemetery.Visitation will be on Wednesday from 12:30 PM until time of services at Zion Lutheran Church. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton is handling services of Luella Friedrich.Luella Delphine Friedrich was born on June 24, 1918, at Hegbert Township, Swift County, to Emil and Annie (Glimsdal) Swenson. She grew up in the Drywood area and was baptized and confirmed at Drywood Lutheran Church.On September 10, 1936, she was united in marriage to Herbert Friedrich at the Holloway Baptist Church. Together they farmed north of Milan for 22 years. After moving off the farm and into Appleton in 1962 Luella worked at the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home until she retired. She loved her job and was a wonderful caregiver.She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Appleton where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved with the Women's Missionary Society. Her favorite hobby was embroidery and the family enjoyed many items made by her over the years.A few years after Herbert's death Luella went to live at Pleasant View Apartments in Appleton and when she needed more assistance she moved to Pleasant View-Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. James on December 16, 2002.Luella died on Saturday afternoon, July 4th, at Pleasant View-Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. James. She had attained 91 years and 10 days of age.She is survived by four sons: Jerry (Betty) Friedrich of Hutchinson, Richard (Sandi) Friedrich of Cedar Rapids, IA, Glen (Eileen) Friedrich of St. James, and Wayne (Jane) Friedrich of Spicer; 11 grandchildren: Annette (Gary) Evenson, Kyle (Lori) Friedrich, Lynn (Steve) Thomas, Corey (Sandy) Friedrich, Kelly (Dave) Wertz, Kasey (Joe) Powers, Sarah (Jay) Lee, Jesse Friedrich, Suzanne (Eric) Kuehl, Jennifer (Dave) Ascher, and Rachel (Tony) Ree; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Friedrich, of Appleton; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert, on December 4, 19992; sister, Marvel; and three brothers: Marvin, Clarence, and Elmer Swenson.
