Margaret Anna Hilke was born July 28, 1918, in Lamars Township near Fairmont, North Dakota, the daughter of Albert and Josephine (Becker) Lehmann. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She grew up in the Fairmont, North Dakota area and attended rural school in Lamars and Fairmont. On May 12, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to Leo Herman Hilke at St. Patrick Cathedral in El Paso, Texas. This union was blessed with two daughters. Leo passed away in 1980. Together, Margaret and Leo were able to share in 37 years of marriage. When they were first married, Margaret and Leo lived in Fairmont, North Dakota. In 1950, they moved to Ortonville and together operated Hilke Produce. Later, Margaret worked as a cashier at the Red Owl grocery store. In 1959, they moved to Benson and she worked there at the Red Owl and Super Value grocery stores and at the Benson Produce. She was a member of the St. Francis Altar and Rosary Society and the VFW Auxiliary. Among the things she enjoyed were playing cards, playing BINGO, embroidery and other handiwork. Margaret was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Benson. She attained the age of 90 years, 7 months and 6 days. Margaret is survived by her children: Kathryn (Patrick) Walsh of Murdock and Mary Hilke (Pat Roberts) of Andover; three grandchildren: David (Barbara) Walsh, Ann (Phillip) Hippe, and Sarah (Jeremy) Biermaier; four great grandchildren: Luke and Audrey Walsh, Kaitlyn & Darin Hippe; siblings: Lucille Keller of Paynesville and Roger (Verna Mae) Lehmann of Texas. Preceding her in death were her husband Leo; her parents, Albert and Josephine; sister Donna Watry; nephew Duane Keller; and three brothers: Edward, Lester and George Lehmann.
