Obituary

Marguerite Josephine (Peterson) Rodahl was born September 12, 1921 to Peter and Gunda (Dahl) Peterson, at their family home in rural Pope County. The youngest of eight children, Marguerite was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church. She often spoke of having her confirmation lessons in both Norwegian and English. As a young girl, she enjoyed living on the shores of Scandinavian Lake, where her father ran a country store and had the local telephone switchboard office. Living by a lake had many advantages, such as swimming and fishing in the summer and skating in the winter. After graduating from Brooten High School in 1939, Marguerite went on to teacher's training and became a school teacher. She started teaching at nineteen years old in Terrace, District 27. After one year of teaching, Marguerite was united in marriage to Harvey Rodahl of rural Benson on June 1, 1941 at the Rolling Forks parsonage. Together they were able to share in sixty-eight years of marriage and raised four children, H. Randall, Keith, Nadine, and Carolyn. Marguerite taught two more years of school following her marriage, one at District 77, of rural Starbuck, and the other at District 34 in rural Benson. With the family growing she gave up her teaching career to raise her family and to help Harvey with farming and starting a plumbing business. In 1948 they formed R & N Brass, which later evolved into R & N Supply, a wholesale plumbing and heating company, located in Benson. Marguerite and Harvey sold their farm and purchased a lake lot from Marguerite's sister and brother in law, on Scandinavian Lake in 1949, where they built their first home. Later they would move next door after buying Marguerite's aunt and uncle's cottage. Marguerite was a talented writer and enjoyed writing plays and skits for Mother's club and local theater productions. She taught Sunday School and worked to set up the first library at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church. She loved to read and write poetry and was a wonderful baker. She and Harvey traveled to Norway, Australia, and enjoyed going to Montana in their R. V. for agate hunting. In 2007 they sold their lake home and moved into Benson. She was called from this life on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Lakeview Good Samaritan Home in Glenwood. She attained the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 17 days. Marguerite is survived by her four children; H. Randall (Bonnie) Rodahl of Benson, Keith(Mary) Rodahl of Benson, Nadine (Glen) Strand of Murdock, and Carolynn (Warren) Holte of Glenwood; five grandchildren, Sheila (Mike) Goff, Shawn (Holly) Rodahl, Anthony (Lisa)Strand, Trevor (Tanya) Strand, and Chad Fischer; twelve great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Marguerite is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Gunda, her husband Harvey, on November 22, 2009, two brothers Orrin and Leonard Peterson, and five sisters, Gertrude Engen, Alma Peterson, Dagny Ejven, Pearl Felder, and Olga Eskelson. Marguerite was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be sorely missed by them and a countless array of friends.
