Marion Theodora Himley was born June 19, 1917, in Swenoda Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of William Gustav and Gerda Marie (Tengvall) Swanson. She was baptized on July 4, 1922 at Swenoda Lutheran Church and confirmed On April 29, 1934 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Benson. Marion grew up and attended school in rural Benson. She graduated from Benson High School with the Class of 1935. She attended Normal training in Benson and taught in area rural schools. On June 18, 1943, Marion was united in marriage to Lyle Ernest Himley in the Chapel at Camp Wolters, Texas. This marriage was blessed with three children and 65 years of marriage. The family farmed in Swenoda Township for 33 years. In 1968 Marion graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris, with a degree in Education. She taught school in Appleton until she retired. In 1982, they moved to Lake Minnewaska by Glenwood, and in 1998 they moved back to Benson. Marion was a member of the Minnesota Teacher's Association, Study Clubs, Homemakers, and church organizations. Among the things she enjoyed were creative work, cooking, and decorating. Marion was called from this life on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Benson. She attained the age of 92 years, 8 months and 23 days. Marion is survived by her children: Ann Hawley of Benson, Lee (Susan) Himley of Benson and Susan (Philip) Johnson of Cloquet; eight grandchildren: Jon (Margret) Hawley, Craig (Sarah) Hawley, Terri (Scott) Collins, Alan (Nancy) Himley, Christopher (Molly Davis) Johnson, Michael (Erin McMahon) Johnson, Lisa (Zach) Knaus, and Melissa Himley; fourteen great grandchildren: Brady, Brett, Carli, Nathan, Annabelle, Amelia, Matthew, Katelyn, Claire, Carter, Elliot, Wyatt, Lauren, and Lexi; and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lyle in 2008; parents, William and Gerda; sisters: Alphine Sutfin and Gladys Boutain; and a brother, Len, in infancy.
