Obituary

Norman C. Koehler, 102, died peacefully at home in Sun City Center, Florida on November 16, 2019. Mr. Kohler was born on June 8, 1917 in Wind Gap, PA, to Charles F. and Estelle (Roth) Koehler. He graduated from Brodersville High School in 1935.

In 1937, he graduated from Stroudsburg State Teachers College and taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Pennsylvania. He was Principle of Smithfield High School before joining the army in 1943 where he was assigned to the 298 Combat Battalion in North Cumberland Army Depot, and completed officers training. In WWII, he served as a captain in the United States Army stationed in England, France, Belgium and Germany until 1947. Last June, he commemorated the 75th anniversary of his landing on Normandy Beach in France.

Following his service, Mr. Koehler completed Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1951. He practiced dentistry in Camp Hill, PA until 1987.

After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and building furniture. Norman could fix just about anything and loved tinkering in he garage workshop. He built and piloted his own plane during his career. He kept up on the latest events in politics, sports, and current affairs. He was able to regal listeners with stories of his childhood, schooling, military service.

Predeceased by his wife Wanda (Mikonon) in 1987, and his daughter Audrey in 2014, as well as his parents and his 4 siblings. In 1998, he married Anne Hulbert, his loving and caring wife who was at his side when he passed away. In addition to his wife Anne, a nephew, James Howard from Port Charlotte, Florida, survives him. Adopted by Anne's loving family, Al (Faith) Hulbert, Stephen (Judy) Hulbert and grandchildren Mark, Timothy and Shannon, and one great grandchild, Jaxon.

A memorial will take place at 11 AM on December 6, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 701 Valley Forge Blvd in Sun City Center, Florida 33573. Donations may be made in his honor at Seasons Hospice, 1408 N West Shore Blvd, Tampa, Florida 33607 or Redeemer Luther Church.
