Olga L. Shaffer was born October 12, 1912 in Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Gilbert O. and Karine (Hanson) Brothen. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Benson. Olga graduated from Benson High School with the Class of 1930. On October 8, 1961, Olga was united in marriage to William Jennings Shaffer at Wooddale Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park by Rev Paul Obenauf. William passed away in 1963. Olga worked in Benson as a secretary for WM Perrizo Insurance and in 1961, they moved to California and worked in a Bible Store. In 1984, Olga moved back to Benson. She was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Among the things she enjoyed were cooking, sewing, and traveling. Olga was called from this life on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Meadow Lane Health Care Center. She attained the age of 98 years, 5 months and 7 days. Olga is survived by her son Donald (Judy) Beale of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren: Joseph (Sandy) Beale of Algona, WA and Denise Barnhart of Milton, WA; two great grandchildren: Bruce Barnhart and Roxanne Barnhart; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husbands, William Wayne Beale and William J. Shaffer; her parents; her brothers: Ole Brothen, Arf Brothen, and Lars Brothen; and two sisters: Ruth Dumond and Esther O'Neil.
