Obituary

Peggy Conner Sanchez passed away on October 16th, 2023, at the age of 76. She's now reunited with the love of her life - LOVEY.

Peggy was born in Douglas, Ga but lived in FL most of her life. She grew up in Lakeland with wonderful parents, John and Maybelle Conner. The oldest of five siblings, she is survived by four siblings, several nieces, and other loving family.

At the age of 21 Peggy married her high school sweetheart - Santiago Valentin Sanchez on September 7th, 1968. She called him "Lovey" and he was known from that day forward to everyone as Lovey. Peg and Lovey never had any children, but they lived a great life!

They lived in Gainesville while Lovey was attending The University of Florida to become an Electrical Engineer. After graduation they purchased their first home in Coral Springs where her best friends, Cookie and Bill, spent many weekends hanging out and boating.

Later they moved to the house in the woods which was in Lake Worth, FL on 5 acres. Peg loved the woods as much as the water. She would zip around in her golf cart chasing raccoons and rescuing animals, mainly cats. She loved cats but the daily duties of taking care of them consumed most of her life.

Peggy and Lovey loved being on the water and eventually built a "Getaway" beautiful house in the keys - Cudjoe Key where they spent a lot of their time enjoying the good life with family and friends. I had the pleasure of being with them in the keys many times. It was wonderful!

Peg and Lovey were married 43 years when he passed away in 2011. After his passing Peg moved back to Lakeland, FL to be with her mother and the rest of her family. Growing up she always wanted to come back to Lakeland and live with her mother. After her mother passed away in 2015, she moved to Apollo Beach with her sister Sandy, Mike, Mr. Sweetie, and Bailey.

Peggy was an avid reader, seamstress and crafter. She spent a lot of time in Michael's and Joanne's. Her favorite color was purple. Birthdays and special occasions she made homemade cards in every shade of purple that were such treasures. She always celebrated her birthday with a Publix Danish bakery birthday cake decorated in purple with extra roses!

She will be most remembered for her lifelong dedication to rescuing and fostering animals. Peggy had a joyful heart and an infectious laugh and smile. She loved life. She was loving, kind, and extremely generous. Peg was the best sister anyone could ever have. She will definitely be missed. I'm very thankful and blessed for all of the years we shared together. I Loved her so much!

I would like to thank Connie and all the staff at Freedom Plaza for the wonderful care they provided for my sister. They always went above and beyond to make her life meaningful and loved her dearly.

Most of all - Peggy enjoyed boating with Lovey and being on the water. Her ashes will be combined with his and scattered at sea. That was her last wish, and I will definitely make sure that happens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in her name to Alzheimer's Association or to your local animal shelter.
