Phyllis Marie Crippen, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2025, in
Gibsonton, Florida, surrounded by her loving soulmate, Claude Gates, and family.

Phyllis was born on October 2, 1940, in Midland, Michigan, to Carl Hyatt and Letha Whittington.
She was a kind, caring, and generous woman who never hesitated to help others — even
strangers. Her warmth and compassion touched many lives.

She dedicated many years of her life to the hospitality industry, where her friendly and nurturing
nature shone brightly. In her free time, Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, baking, and especially
traveling. Her happiest moments were spent with her family and friends, making memories that
will be cherished forever.

Phyllis was first married to John Albert Crippen (January 9, 1939 – April 1, 1997), and later to
Clare S. Morrow, who passed away on February 10, 2013. In her later years, she shared her life
with her devoted soulmate, Claude Gates.

She is preceded in death by her son, John W. Crippen (January 4, 2021), and sisters Carolyn
Toner and Mary Babcock.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Rick Crippen and Tina Evans; grandchildren, Michael
Crippen, Sean and Kyle Evans, Christy Crippen, Shannon Bognot, Chelsea Crippen, and
Richard Crippen Jr.; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Lester
Hyatt, and half-sisters Ruth Woolard, Wanda Tessen, Grace Spann, and Jane Swanson.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025, 3pm at Midland Memorial Gardens in Midland,
Michigan.

Phyllis's legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will live on in all who knew her.
