Richard Martin
Furman
May 12, 1942 — Aug 4, 2026
Sun City Center
Richard Martin Furman, 84, of Sun City Center, FL passed away on Aug. 4, 2026 at LifePath Hospice with his beloved wife Judy by his side following a 6 month illness. Born in Rochester, NY May 12, 1942 to Edna Reinhart Furman and Walter Martin Furman, Jr. Rich attended Furman University, his namesake, for one year and went on to start his own business, the Rug Medics, and was self-employed from thereafter.
Richard (Rich, Dick, Dad or Papa) was known for his quick wit and humor (endless Dad/Papa jokes), work-ethic, inclusivity and generosity. Rich was an active member in the Sun City Center, FL community including: organizing the Senior Social Dance Group with his bride Judy, maintaining neighborhood lawns and grocery shopping with his 100 yr. old friend Norma.
Rich was an avid golfer and had been a starter/ranger at Freedom Fairways (making 4 “Hole-in-One’s” between 2000-2017). For fun he found great joy in dancing, playing cards, especially Hand and Foot, entertaining, cooking “tube steaks” (“Zweigle's white hots” hot dogs), working out at the gym and blessing his family by sharing his endless “Mr. Fix-It skill-set”. Of the utmost importance, Rich always made it a point to leave people with a smile, and that is how he lived each day of his life.
Rich is survived by wife Judy, his sister Joy Virden, his daughters Deanne Consul (Kevin) and Kelly Hill (Dan) from his 1st wife Peggy; step-children (whom he called his own) David, Janis, Ellen, Jeffrey and James from his 2nd & deceased wife Audrey; grandchildren Clark, Graham, Kevin Jr., Chloe, Aidyn & Ella and numerous step-grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by his parents and step-daughter Audree.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to LifePath Hospice of Sun City Center, FL.
