Richard Warren "Dick" Larson was born January 30, 1932, on a farm north of Murdock, the son of Thure and Laurena (Dahl) Larson. He was baptized at his parent's home in 1935. He attended country school near his home through 8th grade and graduated from Murdock High School in 1949. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He served his country from January 1953 to December 1954. On June 11, 1955, Dick was united in marriage to Mary Evelyn Quinn at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. This union was blessed with six daughters. Together, Dick and Mary enjoyed 52 years of marriage. They farmed north of Murdock until 1963. He started working at the Murdock Farmers Elevator in 1963 and was promoted to manager in 1966. He managed the Murdock elevator and later, United Farmers Elevators, (Benson/Kerkhoven/Murdock/Pennock) for 27 years. In his retirement, he worked seasonally for Crop Mate and WestCon, delivering fertilizer. He was a member of the VFW and the VFW Rifle Guard. Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, playing cards, attending horse races and watching Twins baseball. He was called from this life on Sunday morning, January 25, 2009, at his home. He attained the age of 76 years, 11 months and 26 days. Dick is survived by his daughters: Annette (Gary) Johnson of Moorhead, Linda Olson and Dave Finck of Verndale, Sandy (Steve) Olinger of Carver, Cathy (Jerry) Skindelien of Sunburg, Jan (Shawn) Bolin of Savage and Nancy (Troy) Van Zee of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren: Tara (Scott) Geisler, Tony Olinger, Shane Skindelien, Jenna Johnson, Cory Bolin, Jordan Van Zee and Tayler Van Zee; one great grandchild: Brady Geisler; his sister, Arlene Kellner of Benson; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary; his parents, Thure and Laurena Larson; and seven siblings: Bernice Zander, Howard Larson, Lorraine Cornell, Corrine Larson, Byron Larson, Connie Bloom and Carole Laughlin.
