Richard Pompei (Dick), 79, of Sun City Center FL, passed away on Wednesday Dec. 26th at 1:37am at LifePath Hospice. Born September 3, 1933 in Lorain Ohio, to the late John and Helen (nee Ricco) Pompei.
Dick was a Korean War Veteran, serving aboard the air craft carrier, USS Coral Sea. He is past commander of the Italian American Veterans Post 1, in Lorain OH and a member of American Legion Post 67. He was employed at Thew Shovel in Lorain OH.
In 1980 he moved to Noblesville IN, and was employed as Operations Manager of Glass Craft, Inc, Indianapolis. He retired in 1995 as Materials Manager of Wellman Thermal Systems. Dick and Betty moved to Sun City Center, FL. They enjoyed many years of travel and cruising. He loved boating, dancing, fishing, playing poker and his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife, of 57 years, Betty (nee Fam), three daughters Dolly (Jim Arbucle), Shari (Rick Randall), and Patty (Ryan Hughes). Also, his brother Bob (Judy) Pompei, of Mansfield OH., his sister Donna Greeley (Dana Schaff), Denver, CO., eleven grandchildren: Alan, Richard, Michael Baltzell; Annie, Andy, Camie, Maranda Arbuckle; Katie Sidebottom, Julie Peterson; Jake and Shane Hughes; and three great grandchildren Alan and Alyssa Baltzell and Rodney Sidebottom III. Also many nieces and nephews.
Grave-side services and interment with Military Honors will be at 2:30pm at Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday Dec. 28th, 2012.
Family, friends and neighbors are invited to a celebration of life directly after the service at the Sun City Center Atrium in the Caper Room from 4pm to 8pm.
