Obituary

The family of Richard "Dick" Warren Winslow announces, with sadness, the passing of their father, on April 21, 2019. He was cared for at the Tidewell Hospice Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

He was born and raised in Ayer, MA, the son of Warren & Bertha (Stone) Winslow. His siblings include 3 brothers, Allen (deceased), Ralph (deceased) and Ronald, who lives in Reading, MA.

One month short of his 95th birthday, he enjoyed a full and active life.
His wife of 70 years, Virginia (Wiseman) Winslow, predeceased him. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Winslow) Brookes and David Brookes, and his son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Rick) Winslow and Karen (Darby) Winslow. His son, Brian Winslow, predeceased him.

He also leaves his four grandchildren, Christian Nally (spouse Martine Paulin), Jon Nally (spouse Kerrin Lanktree Nally), Alexandra Winslow and Emily Winslow. He has four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He proudly served our country during WWII. He enlisted straight out of high school into the army. He was an infantryman in the 289th Regiment and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Throughout the remainder of his life, he honored those in service to our country by participating in fund raising and public awareness activities.

Following his service he married and began his career. He managed a Woolworth's Store for several years, then opened his own variety store, "Winslow's" which he operated for 10 years. He then obtained his Funeral Director's License, and worked in both MA and Saint John NB Canada for many years.

He was most proud of his involvement with the Kiwanis organization in Saint John, where he participated in community service and represented them as the President for a term. During his time with Kiwanis, they opened an innovative facility, "Key Industries", which provides services to empower persons with a disability to achieve social, community and economic independence. He also volunteered for the Saint John Red Cross.
His passion was the game of golf. He participated actively in the game right up until his passing. Along the way, he cherished the many opportunities to play with his family, his friends, and in making new friends, who loved the game.

He was a Christian who practiced his faith daily. He had trust in the knowledge he would live on to be with those who have gone before him.
He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends who enjoyed his good humor, loyalty, and example of how to live life each day with faith and optimism.

There are no visitation hours. A graveside service is to be conducted at the Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1 pm.
