Obituary

Rita Scott Bevan, age 77, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away on November 9, 2017. She is the wife of Gerard (Jerry) Bevan. They would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on November 20th.

Born in Scranton, PA, the daughter of the late William Jerome and Cathleen McDonough Scott, she was a graduate of Scranton Central High School ('58), the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, Scranton ('61), Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre, PA, with a BS in Nursing Education, ('70), College of Saint Francis, Joliet, IL, with an MS in Hospital Administration ('85) and completed the coursework for an Executive MBA at Arizona State University ('92). Rita was a health care professional for 43 years. She worked in many aspects of healthcare in four states, the last 21 years was as an administrator for behavioral health services. She was an advocate for the mentally ill.

Rita was active in several professional and community organizations. She was the first nurse to serve on the Board of Directors of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Heart Association. She taught religious education classes in New Jersey, Arizona, and Florida. She was a member of the parish council at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Scottsdale, AZ, a member of the Finance Committee at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center (SCC), FL, the first secretary of the Brookfield Greens Association Board of Directors, SCC, FL, was Secretary for the Mental Health Coalition in SCC, and served on the Board of the SCC chapter of the American Association of University Women.

Also surviving are two sons: Thomas Bevan, (daughter-in-law Lisa and granddaughter Kate), and Todd Bevan, as well as a brother, Jerome Scott (wife Margaret), two sisters, Lois Farrell (husband William), and Janet Zuczek (husband Stanley).

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Kay Scott.

A private funeral service will be held at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, PA.
