Robert Gerald Gingery (Jerry), 78, of Sun City Center, Florida passed away on September 23, 2025, at Manatee Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.
Born in New Albany, Indiana, on June 22, 1947, Jerry graduated from Hanover College and continued to the School of Optometry at Indiana University. A quick study, and man of many varied skills, Jerry worked as an optometrist, and later for an oil and gas company which took him to Texas, North Dakota, Nevada and elsewhere. In Florida, he worked for Lucent Technologies. Perpetually interested in learning, Jerry next went back to school to become an ultrasonography technician.
Outside of work, Jerry's interests ranged from numismatics to electronics, which he embraced with such enthusiasm that he built his own computer.
Jerry loved his family immensely. He cared for his parents for many years, gave generously, and doted on his many nieces and nephews. The definition of a fun uncle, Jerry was always up for a board game, a trip to the beach or Disney, or a good joke.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Walter and Annis Elizabeth Gingery. He is survived by his brothers Richard Gingery (Suze) and Stephen Gingery, close friends Levi McIntyre (Diana), his nephews Mark Gingery and Tim Kop, nieces Niki Dow and Jillian Hardee (Chad), two great-nephews, and four great-nieces.
Jerry will be remembered for his kind spirit, gentle manner, and love for his family.
