Rodney "Pete" Louis Peterson, 73,
of Sun City Center, FL, and Mount Jackson, VA,
and formerly of Laurel and Poolesville, MD, passed
away on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at his home in Sun City Center.
Born on May 7, 1943, in Washington, DC,
to Rodney W. and Theresa M. (Brenner) Peterson,
he married Martha Lynn Beard on March 28, 1964, in Hyattsville, MD.
Rod graduated from Northwestern High School in 1961
and American University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
He served in the United States Army from 1966-69 and,
after a long and distinguished career,
retired from the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority.
A faithful servant of Christ, Rod enjoyed golf, fishing, bridge,
entertaining his friends and family, and spending time with his grandsons.
Celebrations of his life will be held at
Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church,
17812 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD, 20837,
at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, and
at Sun City Center United Methodist Church,
1210 Del Webb Boulevard West,
Sun City Center, FL, 33573 at
1 p.m. on Sunday, January 22.
Rod was survived by: his two daughters
Leigh Anne (Peterson) Killian and her husband John of Fredericksburg, VA,
and Kristen Noel (Peterson) Dolphin, and her husband Steven of State College, PA;
his five grandsons Jack, Brenner, Sawyer,
Conner, and Ryan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1987,
his wife in 1995, his mother in 2004, and his sister in 2015.
